Bluebird skies made for a great race at SUNNYpee.

Our Ford Sayre athletes dominated the field this past weekend at Sunapee with five girls and five boys finishing in the top ten. Across the board our U12 athletes have made countless improvements in their skiing. From trusting their skis and laying it over on edge to having confidence at the start gate, every athlete should feel proud.

The day started off with howling wind and a snowpocalypse at the top of the mountain. By early afternoon the clouds had lifted and we experienced nothing but sunshine. The kids were fired up and determined to ski their fastest.

The race was over by about 1:30 and straight from the race hill our athletes scattered across the mountain to get in some free skiing

and terrain park fun. Nothing beats the ear to ear smiles we see on our athlete’s faces after they click into their skis! A true passion for the sport is what carries any athlete to the top. Way to go Ford Sayre!

First week at Whaleback!

Training at Whaleback has begun! This week we are focusing on SL until the snow conditions allow us to train some GS. We have set up a mix of opportunities for the kids to get a feel for what it is like to ski in the “big gates.” Yesterday we set up a rhythmical stubby course that was pretty offset in order to force the kids to realize how important it is to be on the front of their boots in an aggressive position. They definitely came to realize how important it is to drive forward over steep terrain!

Further down the trail we set up an introduction to tall pole SL. The gates were placed in the ground at an angle which allowed the athletes to feel what it is like to cross block the gates without having to lean in or “reach” in order to do so. They totally rocked it! As we become more confortable in the bigger gates everyone is starting to realize the tall poles really are not as intimidating as they initially seemed. This weekend we are off to Sunapee! The athletes are filled with excitement as we come into our second race weekend! Lets GO Ford Sayre!

PS- Take a look at the upcoming WorldCup races! Next to each event is a link to a website where you can watch the race live! I hope you all get a chance to sit down with your kid(s) to watch a bit!

First races of the season!

We had a great weekend of skiing and racing at both Gunstock and Cannon! The kids had a blast and skied with excitement in their first race of the season. Despite chilly temps everyone skied very well. Over the next two weeks we will be training for the Skinner Race at Sunapee where the FS crew is sure to ski fast again!
